Have you watched the new Ricky Gervais Netflix special, SuperNature, yet? If not, you should, as it’s hilarious. Though a bit of it isn’t his best work (at one point he’s just reading off some of his tweets to the audience), a good chunk of it is classic Gervais: unrepentant, savage, and so funny you’ll be doubled over laughing.
At least, you’ll be doubled over laughing if you have a sense of humor and are okay with hearing someone joke about things in a way that you don’t necessarily agree with. Gervais is an equal opportunity offender when it comes to joking about things in a way that will get conservatives and leftists mad, after all.
But, conservatives tend to have a sense of humor when it comes to such things, or at least the more reasonable ones do. At the very least, few conservatives are demanding Gervais be censored and the special be pulled over jokes he makes with which they disagree.
Not so on the left, where ideologues and radicals respond to any jokes about their sacred totems with demands of censorship and silencing or claims that the jokes are somehow “dangerous”, as has happened with the recent special.
Pink News, for example, went on the warpath in a recent article titled Ricky Gervais’ new Netflix special is nothing more than an anti-trans garbage fire, as did people on Twitter, with GLAAD in effect demanding that Netflix censor Gervais.

Word is that Netflix sat on it for months because of how virulently transphobic it is—worse than Chappelle—but are releasing it anyway for fear of right-wing backlash.

As you can hear in the video, Gervais says:
“Oh, women! Not all women, I mean the old-fashioned ones. The old-fashioned women, the ones with wombs. Those fucking dinosaurs. I love the new women. They’re great, aren’t they? The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and cocks. They’re as good as gold, I love them.
And now the old-fashioned ones say, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets!’
‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’
‘For ladies!’
‘They are ladies! Look at their pronouns! What about this person isn’t a lady?’
‘Well, his penis.’
‘HER penis, you fucking bigot!’
‘What if he rapes me?’
‘What if SHE rapes you? You fucking TERF whore!’”
Gervais later said: “You can’t predict what will be offensive in the future… Like, the worst thing you can say today, get you canceled on Twitter, death threats, the worst thing you can say today is, ‘Women don’t have penises,’ right? Now, no one saw that coming.”
“You won’t find a ten-year-old tweet saying ‘Women don’t have penises.’ You know why? We didn’t think we f – – king had to!”
Oh, and he closes the special by saying: “Full disclosure: In real life of course I support trans rights. I support all human rights, and trans rights are human rights. Live your best life. Use your preferred pronouns. Be the gender that you feel you are. But meet me halfway, ladies. Lose the cock. That’s all I’m saying.”
So of course it got the left mad. Those totems and shibboleths of the modern left, particularly ones having to do with trans people, are things that the looney leftists go absolutely ballistic about when they’re made fun of and rather than just sit silently and enjoy the rest of the show, as normal people do when they hear a joke they don’t like, the left went absolutely ballistic.
Netflix, for its part, surprisingly isn’t backing down to the wokies within and outside of its company. Rather, it sent out a memo saying:
“Entertaining the world is an amazing opportunity and also a challenge because viewers have very different tastes and points of view. So we offer a wide variety of TV shows and movies, some of which can be provocative. To help members make informed choices about what to watch, we offer ratings, content warnings and easy to use parental controls.
Not everyone will like — or agree with — everything on our service. While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what’s appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.
As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values. Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.”
So that’s surprising, albeit in a pleasant way. The rest of the left’s response has been totally predictable and as anti-free speech as one might expect from people that can’t take a joke or brook any dissent from the right.
