The Week in Review #7

Wow, I can’t believe that yet another week of writing articles has flow by since last week’s “The Week in Review.” It feels like so much happened, but the week just flew by. In any case, welcome back to Gen Z Conservative and The Week in Review #7!

This week, as in the past week, I’ll post summaries of links to the top three articles from last week. That way you can catch back up if you’ve missed a few days, or just check out your favorite articles again!

This past week, the top three articles were “Hong Kong Understands the Importance of Freedom,” “Is the Trade War Succeeding or Failing?” and @beyondreason’s guest book review of “Quiet” by Susan Cain.

The Hong Kong Protestors are Freedom Fighters

Many Americans are proud of their ancestors’ struggle to rid America of the British during the American Revolution. But, few people in America today still exemplify that spirit of 1776 that led to the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. We’ve forgotten that it was a revolt caused by high taxes and attempted gun confiscation, and now many on the left, such as Beto “the Gunsalesman” O’Rourke and serial-liar Elizabeth Warren, openly advocate for both of those things!

Even worse, communist Antifa members are rioting in Portland and physically assaulting conservative college students. Or putting them on hit lists.

Luckily, there is a glimmer of hope for the world. The protestors in Hong Kong are freedom fighters and truly understand the importance of freedom. They certainly understand it more than the violent Antifa terrorists.

And that’s what inspired me to write “Hong Kong Understands the Importance of Freedom.” While Reagan was right in that America is the last stand on Earth for freedom, there are still places in which citizens exemplify the love of freedom that our Founding Fathers fought for. We should respect and support those in Hong Kong; what’s at stake is the survival of freedom. Check out my article to read more!

How is the Trade War Going?

I am a big fan of President Trump; I think his intelligence is high and he has implemented a number of good policies. Especially tax cuts, which are good for all of us. Furthermore, he’s a leader with a backbone, so he can get things done.

However, the trade war has not been a roaring success. While it has hurt China, it has also hurt many of the Americans that were counting on him to make their lives better.

Yes, the real scale of Trump’s tariffs is not that big. But, they might be having an outsized effect on economic growth in America. And if the roaring Trump economy starts to go down, then it is likely one of the awful Democratic candidates could win.

Beyond Reason’s Review of Quiet

@beyond_reason is one of the best guest writers on Gen Z Conservative. His guest articles, such as the review of Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opioid Epidemic, are always thoughtful, well-written, and about a very interesting topic. The recent review of Quiet by Susan Cain is no exception.

As someone who is introverted, I was very interested in if Quiet is worth reading. It’s about introverts and how society seems stacked against them. At first, I thought it might be interesting to read even though I disagreed with the premise.

However, after reading @beyond_reason’s review, I am certain that I will not be picking up a copy of Quiet. It sounds too biased and full of the same stale examples that liberals always use; Gandhi, Rosa Parks, and Obama.

But that’s just my opinion. You should check out Beyond Reason’s review of Quiet and decide for yourself if it’s worth buying!
