The Week in Review #6

Introduction to The Week in Review #6

Welcome back to Gen Z Conservative’s week in review, where I go over the top three articles from the past week. Last week, all of the top articles were about Big Government and the effect it has on society. This week, there was no major theme like last week. Instead, the articles were about a more diverse set of topics. However, while looking through the past week’s articles for The Week in Review #6, I did realize that most of the top articles have to do with whether or not the “elites” are making the right decisions.

So what are the top three articles for The Week in Review #6? The first is my review of Why Liberalism Failed. The second is my post about whether or not we are currently fighting for our freedom in the Middle East. And finally, the third article is about whether or not Joe Biden is corrupt.

1. Why Liberalism Failed

I tried to tie my review of Why Liberalism Failed to contemporary politics and society. Everyone seems depressed and apprehensive, but no one seems to know why. I think things are that way because of what Deneen writes about in Why Liberalism Failed; our institutions, such as church and family life, have been gutted by liberalism and Big Government.

As a result, people are lacking a sense of purpose. Sure, some are driven by capitalism to build something great, to get out of bed and build something. Those are people with values and goals like John Galt in Atlas Shrugged. But few modern Americans know how to “act correctly,” as the Stoics like Epictetus would say. Instead, the focus tends to be on handouts like free college and hedonistic activities.

In any case, Deneen’s Why Liberalism Failed is an excellent take on both American politics and the issues currently ailing American society. Just like I think every conservative should read Atlas Shrugged, I think every American should read Why Liberalism Failed.

2. Are we Fighting for Freedom in the Middle East?

Our troops are deployed all around the world right now. In fact, America has over 800 military bases in 70 countries. That professional, standing army is a far cry from the citizen army Jefferson and many of the other Founding Fathers wanted for America. But, if our Army is fighting for freedom, then it doesn’t matter, right?

Perhaps. I’m not really sure. Frankly, I think having a strong Navy like the one described in The Two Ocean War is more important because it allows us to protect our shipping and ensure free trade. Based on Jefferson’s naval buildup described in The History of the United States during the Administrations of Thomas Jefferson, he would agree.

But what really matters is that whatever the size of our military is, it should be fighting for the right causes and ensuring freedom and liberty at home. I’m not sure that is the case anymore. Read “Are we Fighting for Freedom” to find out why!

3. Is Joe Biden Corrupt?

This week, my “Interesting Article” was an excellent piece from The Federalist about Joe Biden’s perceived corruption. He and his son might just be crony capitalists looking to make a quick buck, or they could be outright corrupt. In my opinion, it’s most likely a combination of both.

I think the article is great and definitely worth a read because it has an excellent description of the “coincidences” related to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden’s intersecting interests that have aroused suspicion.

Joe has forced agencies to look into matters his son was lobbying for. He asked the Ukranian government to stop looking into the company his son was working for. And his son uses the family name to drum up lobbying business.

In Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand calls the group who uses political power like that the “aristocracy of pull.” They embody capitalism at its worst; a system where powerful bureaucrats use political power and favor to make their fortunes.

You should read “Is Joe Biden Corrupt?” The group of Democrat contenders is a sad group of losers. They either champion sham ideas and agendas like Bernie, are compulsive liars like Elizabeth Warren or are corrupt like Biden. And Biden used to be the most electable of the bunch! By reading my article and The Federalist piece that it’s based on, you’ll have a much better understanding of what’s going on with Joe Biden and his son and how it shows that the Democratic Party is a mess.

Enjoy reading last week’s articles!
