The Truth about Why Conservative Hollywood Star James Woods was Canceled

James Woods used to be a huge Hollywood personality, being nominated for numerous Academy Awards and playing major roles in a series of widely acclaimed movies, such as Oliver Stone’s “Salvador”, throughout the 80s and 90s.

But then he more or less vanished from the silver screen, turning into more of a Twitter personality than a Hollywood celebrity. What happened?

What happened is that the left went crazy when President Trump, the “bad orange man” was elected, and, in the heat of its insanity, went berserk on anyone associated with the populist president, with James Woods being a casualty of the culture war edging the line of going hot, with his agent dumping him in 2018 for political reasons in July of 2018, as The Things reports, saying:

On July 4th, 2018, Woods apparently received an email from his agent, informing the actor that he was dropping him as a client due to ‘patriotic’ reasons. With the caption “So this email from my agent (a political liberal) today…,” Woods shared an image of the communiqué on his Twitter account the following day.

The email read, “It’s the 4th of July and I’m feeling patriotic. I don’t want to represent you anymore. I mean I could go on a rant but you know what I’d say.” Woods was of course quick to offer a riposte to the message.

He wrote, “My response: Dear Ken, I don’t actually [know what his agent would say]. I was thinking if you’re feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one’s right to think as an individual. Be that as it may, I want to thank you for all your hard work and devotion on my behalf. Be well.”

Woods’ agent, Ken Kaplan, had of course been referencing the actor’s frequent and fervent support for then-President Donald Trump, something which generally did not go down well in Hollywood circles.

So to be patriotic, the agent canceled him for supporting the duly elected president of the United States…liberal logic is incredible. He was canceled for supporting the president!

That message appears to have signaled the end of Woods’ career in Hollywood, at least on major films. Though his career was slowing before then, Woods has been mostly absent from the screen since then.

The reason for that might be the agent situation, as The Things indicated, saying:

That exchange on Twitter marked the end of what had been a previously fruitful relationship between Woods and Kaplan’s Gersh Agency. Gersh is one of the leading talent agencies in Hollywood, with top-tier names such as Kristen Stewart, Adam Driver, and Patricia Arquette under their banner.

Other conservatives have survived Hollywood, Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood most prominent among them, but those two tend to produce their own movies now rather than relying on the Hollywood establishment. Woods doesn’t do that, and appears to have been cut out of the scene as a result of his highly vocal support of Donald Trump.

But Woods has not been silenced by his cancelation. If anything, he’s grown louder since being booted from Hollywood, continually advocating on Trump’s behalf. So while he might have been canceled for supporting Trump, that hasn’t stopped him from exercising his right to speak freely.
