The Great Samuel Adams Quote on Wealth and Liberty

The Samuel Adams Quote on Wealth and Liberty:

“If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” -Samuel Adams quote on wealth and liberty

My Analysis of the Samuel Adams Quote on Wealth and Liberty:

I really appreciate this Samuel Adams quotation on wealth and liberty because of what it shows about the early American perspective on liberty and wealth. Both were important, but liberty was the far more important goal for many early Americans.

I think that is because wealth can always be built in a nation of free and industrious people. Americans have done so for centuries.

We did so during the administrations of  But liberty only exists if people demand it. It is never given by rulers, it is a natural right that we all deserve and have been given by God. The idea of liberty spoken of in this Samuel Adams quote on wealth and liberty wasn’t just made up by the Founding Fathers; it is a universal fact that every government must recognize if that government is to be just.

However, liberty is not universally recognized. It is a powerful force that many tyrannical governments around the world seek to limit or erase entirely. Countries like Venezuela, North Korea, and Iran know what will happen if they let their citizens live as free men; the totalitarian systems built up over decades will collapse. So, liberty has to be secured and then preserved.

The cost of securing that liberty spoken of in this Samuel Adams quote on wealth and liberty can be immense. It can come at the cost of wealth or even death, as is implied by the quotations of many of the Founding Fathers, most notably Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, and Patrick Henry.

But, it’s worth it. That is why there are currently protesters in Hong Kong fighting against authoritarianism and protesters in the US fighting against the ridiculous Big Government response to the Chinese flu.

In Hong Kong’s case, even though the authoritarian force, China, might bring increased prosperity, the cost is not worth it. The protestors understand what Samuel Adams is saying this quote and prefer liberty to wealth. We should all strive to be as brave as they were.

And, similarly, in America, the protesters that are fighting to reopen business prize their liberty above the safety provided by the “tranquility of servitude” to their governors and DC politicians. Americans are finally waking up to the fact that their rights are under attack by the governing elite and they are very, very unhappy about it.

Thank goodness patriots are finally willing to listen to this Samuel Adams quote on wealth and liberty and stand up for their rights. Before the Chinese Flu, our rights were slowly slipping away and no one defended them. Now, however, people are finally fighting for what is right. They read this Samuel Adams quote on wealth and liberty, or, at least, others like it, and now understand why their liberty is worth defending, even if doing so is somewhat risky.
