Preserving freedom is an onerous task. Ronald Reagan knew that it couldn’t remain without hard work and dedication. Without those values, our freedom would atrophy away to nothing. I think that we need to remember that, no matter what party is in charge. Republicans and Democrats alike have tyrannical tendencies. If we allow then to exercise those tendencies, then how are we to remain free?
The answer is that we won’t. We will live in a police state. That has already happened to some extent; the NSA spies on our conversations, free speech has been limited or done away with at many universities, and our firearm rights are being continually limited. However, all is not lost. We can still fight back against those policies and preserve our freedom! If we don’t, there will be nowhere left in the world where people are free.
Where else could be left? Europe is even more socialist and regulated than we are. In Britain, patriotism or calling out terrorists can be considered hate crimes or evidence of extremism. Similarly, Germany is suspicious of anyone who might possibly be connected to the right. So the Western world has been lost; it was once a bastion of free speech and free markets. Now it has neither of those things. Additionally, Asia has reverted to tyranny. China has concentration camps and a social credit system. The Philippines executes people for the slightest infraction. Singapore canes them. Vietnam remains a communist nation.
Freedom is disappearing from Earth. America is one of the last bastions of it, perhaps the last bastion. We have to preserve those rights that we hold sacred, like free speech and our 2nd Amendment rights, if we are to remain free. This quote by Ronald Reagan on preserving freedom is crucial to know. It shows why we have to fight to remain free; if we don’t, it will disappear.
