Should America’s little boys and girls be in buildings that are kept safe from attack and “hardened” against attackers? That would mean (likely) tall walls, locked doors, metal detectors, and potentially some bulletproof areas.
To many, that sounds like common sense at a time when the shootings continue to happen every so often and police and federal agents, when warned about the danger posed by obviously crazy psychos, refuse to act.
Not to Team Biden, however, which apparently is of the opinion that hardening schools against attack isn’t something that should happen.

That comment came when a reporter asked:
Thank you so much. The President said yesterday that he believes Senator McConnell is a “rational Republican.” Senator McConnell said today that the group of lawmakers that are talking about guns in the wake of Uvalde are talking about the problem, which is quote, “mental illness and school safety.” Does the President agree that that’s the problem here?
Jean-Pierre, who at least knew what the quote was referring to this time, responded by saying:
So, look, when the President said that — he believes that there are some rational Republicans in the Senate who can come together and work on a bipartisan bill. And Mitch McConnell is one of those — is one of those folks.
He does not believe — and we’ve talked about this, he’s talked about this: You know, we are the only country that is dealing with gun violence at the rate that we’re dealing. And other countries have mental health issues. So, what’s the problem here?
And so, the problems is — the problem is what — with — is with guns and not having — and not having legislation to really deal with an issue that is a pandemic here in this country.
And so, you know, that is — that is not his focus, obviously. And when it comes to — when it comes to schools — and I don’t know what he said specifically about schools. I know there’s been conversation about hardening schools; that is not something that he believes in. He believes that we should be able to give teachers the resources to be able to do the job that they’re meant to do at schools.
And this is something that he’s been focusing on since he was Vice — Vice President. So, those are two things that he does not agree on.
But look, he thinks there’s a way to potentially have — potentially come — for senators to come together and Congress to come together. They should. They need to act. And that’s what he’s going to continue to call for.
Not exactly a Churchillian statement, full as it was of stutters and false starts and stops and such. Regardless, her basic point came across, which is that Biden doesn’t think that hardening schools is a solution to attacks and would rather ban your guns.
The reporter, picking up on the fact that “bipartisanship” will be difficult if the two sides have very different ideas of the problem, asked:
Even though he disagrees with the top Republican in the Senate on what the problem is here?
Jean-Pierre, responding, said:
I mean, look, I think that what the President is going to continue to do is call for Congress to take action, is to call for Congress to move forward and deal with this epidemic that we’re seeing across this country. And — and so he’s going to leave it up to Congress to do that. He’s going to step in when needed.
But again, our office — our office here is in regular contact on negotiations.
That’s not really an answer, but it’s as good as we’re gonna get from this administration. Still, it’s shocking that Team Brandon doesn’t want to harden schools against attack to make them safer. If that’s not the solution, then why’s the White House so secure?
