Harry Potter author JK Rowling shouldn’t be confused with a conservative. She’s not one and is quite liberal in many respects. But, though she’s a lib on most issues, Rowling is non-woke on one issue in particular: the transgender one.
Whereas most have bent the knee and just go along with whatever the current thing is as it applies to that issue, Rowling has been pushing back on the left and arguing against what she sees as the replacement of women.
Tweeting on March 5 about a Scottish bill that would make it easier for people to legally change their gender, for instance, Rowling said:
“Multiple women’s groups have presented well-sourced evidence to @NicolaSturgeon’s government about the likely negative consequences of this legislation for women and girls, especially the most vulnerable. All has been ignored. If the legislation is passed and those consequences ensue as a result, the @SNP govt can’t pretend it wasn’t warned.”
IndieWire, reporting on more examples of Rowling’s perceived “transphobia”, noted that:
Rowling, who identifies as a sexual assault survivor, tweeted on March 8, “Someone please send the Shadow Minister for Equalities a dictionary and a backbone. #HappyInternationalWomensDay” after Shadow Minister of Equalities Anneliese Dodds said there are open interpretations to the term “women,” as The Daily Mail reported.
Rowling clapped back at International Women’s Day itself, “Apparently, under a Labour government, today will become We Who Must Not Be Named Day.”
Well, predictably, Rowling’s comments on that topic have sent the usual suspects into a berserker-like rage, causing them to lose their cool and direct vicious vitriol her way on Twitter. Rowling, fortunately, can hold her own and did so when the attacks came her way yet again.
This time, someone said, “how do you sleep at night knowing you’ve lost a whole audience from buying your books“.
“Lost” probably wasn’t the right verb there…fortunately Rowling is the author and not that commenter. In any case, Rowling, hitting back with a brutal, perfect response, said: “I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly“.

And that wasn’t the only Twitter spat Rowling engaged in. She also got in a fight with a guy named Billy Bragg over her comments about trans people recently, with Bragg going on the attack against her and Rowling saying:
Very much enjoying the recent spate of bearded men stepping confidently onto their soapboxes to define what a woman is and throw their support behind rape and death threats to those who dare disagree. You may mock, but takes real bravery to come out as an Old Testament prophet.
Hard to think of anything that better illustrates misogyny than men complaining that a woman has a view on woman’s rights.

But, still, Rowling shouldn’t be thought of as a friend of the conservative movement. Commenting on the recent, nearly $1 billion courtroom loss of Alex Jones, she said “Still not enough. There is literally nothing he could do that could make right what he put those families through – but I hope this breaks him.”
So she’s a temporary ally on the trans issue, nothing more. But, still, it’s great to see her take a hammer to the wokies.
