How to Fight the Culture War: A Lesson from Andrew Breitbart and Ayn Rand

The Quote by Andrew Breitbart on How to Fight the Culture War

“Walk toward the fire. Don’t worry about what they call you. All of those things are said against you because they want to stop you in your tracks. But if you keep going, you’re sending a message to people who are rooting for you, who are agreeing with you. The message is that they can do it too.” -Andrew Breitbart on How to Fight the Culture War

Trump certainly understood how to fight the culture war! He took Breitbart’s advice and always walked toward the fire! Show you still stand with him by ordering one of these FREE hats here: I Love My Freedom

What that Quote Shows about the Manner in which Conservatives Fight the Culture War

In case you are living under a rock and haven’t noticed, here’s an update- America is going through an incredibly acrimonious culture war that has a vast array of consequences. That’s why this quote by Andrew Breitbart, author of Righteous Indignation and founder of, on how to fight the culture war is so important- we need to learn to win.

The Current State of the Culture War in America:

Here’s what’s going on with that culture war right now:

The left wants to open our borders to illegal and unskilled immigrants that, as Samuel Huntington notes in Who Are We?, either don’t know or don’t care about the American Creed and way of life. The right simply wants a ration, merit-based immigration system. There is little middle ground there.

The left wants to allow all types of sexual deviancy. Open homosexuality, no restrictions on abortion (which is not a constitutional right), and even the normalization of pedophilia are what the leftists want. Conservatives, on the other hand, want to protect children from rape or murder and to not have to watch open displays of deviancy in the streets. What two consenting adults do in private is their own business, but the left has gone too far with its support for open displays of deviancy and sexuality. Once again, there is little middle ground in that culture war battlefield.

Also, leftists want to confiscate our guns. Joe Biden certainly would, as shown by his campaign positions. They completely disregard the 2nd Amendment and want to steal the guns of law-abiding citizens, most likely through the use of “gun buyback” programs, which are really just gun confiscation schemes. Conservatives, on the other hand, want to protect the right to keep and bear arms that the Founding Fathers enshrined in the 2nd Amendment and that both Jefferson and Washington recognized as having vast import. As with the other examples of the culture war, there is little common ground between supporting the 2nd Amendment and supporting gun confiscation schemes.

And the culture war spans many other areas, of course. How to handle China. Whether censorship, namely by social media companies, is acceptable. The Marxist takeover of higher education. Whether to support LEOs or BLM. And so on and so forth.

At this point, basically every aspect of life, from entertainment to politics, sports to schooling, has been politicized as part of the culture war. Because it has taken over so much of American life, conservatives need to learn how to fight the culture war effectively. I believe Breitbart’s advice shows just how to do so.

How to Fight the Culture War and Win It

Right now it might seem like we conservatives are losing the culture war. Leftist judges rule against us constantly, Big Tech and the media are firmly on the side of the left, and American values seem to erode every day. Sure, that viewpoint might be correct in some respects; there are certain areas of the fight that we are losing. But I really think that because so many conservatives do not know how to fight the culture war, it just seems like we’re losing. Once more of us learn how to fight the culture war effectively, we’ll start to win it.

As Breitbart said, the most important thing you can learn to do when learning how to fight the culture war is learning how to speak out and stand up for what you believe in. If you need further strengthening of your spine, take Patrick Henry’s advice on holding back opinions; consider not speaking out treason to both yourself and your country.

Whenever you hear a leftist say something with which you disagree, don’t just sit there and take it, listening to them drone on and on without saying anything sensible or of value. Instead, take this lesson on how to fight the culture war to heart and stand up for what you know to be true.

Fight on the side of the 1776 Commission against the evil 1619 project. Fight against the socialist college students that want to destroy America. Educate them and don’t let them get away with lies like “healthcare is a right.” Tell them that you think Joe Biden is corrupt and the Biden Crime Family was selling out America. Tell them you think the Hunter Biden emails are real. Tell them gun control doesn’t work. Do whatever it takes to show the leftists that they are wrong, or at least show the undecided middle that the left is full of crazy people that hate America. That’s how to fight the culture war.

And yes, it carries risks. Cancel culture is an obvious threat, as is social media censorship. But who cares? If someone won’t hire you because you aren’t a leftist sheep, you should not be working there in the first place. Want to know how to fight the culture war? Just speak out and, if worst comes to worst and some rabid, blue-haired wacko tries to cancel you, just boycott whatever leftist companies actually listen to them and find a job at a conservative firm. That’s how to fight the culture war.

Why that Is an Effective Way to Fight the Culture War

That is how to fight the culture war because it works well. It works for the reason described by Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged through Hank Rearden, a character in the novel. As he realizes when dealing with his horrible wife, the only power people have over you is the power you give them. Here’s what Rand said:

“He was seeing the full extent of her failure—in the immensity of his own indifference. The droning stream of her insults was like the sound of a distant riveting machine, a long, impotent pressure that reached nothing within him….The punishment she had wanted to inflict on him was the torture of shame; what she had inflicted was the torture of boredom.”

That passage, like the Breitbart quote, perfectly encapsulates how to fight the culture war. Don’t give your enemies ammunition; don’t care what they have to say. They’ll drone on and on. They’ll act offended or upset. They will scream and yell, trying to drag you down with them. But, as long as you don’t give them the dignity and respect they crave, they have no power over you. As long as you don’t care what they have to say and show your open disdain for them by remaining disinterested while they speak, you’ll win.

That’s because the only weapon they have is your caring about their feelings and taking seriously what they have to say. So, if you say what you think and then remain uninterested and simply don’t acknowledge their opinions or viewpoints as valid or meaningful, you’ll have a step up over them. Without your caring about what they have to say about you or other conservatives, they can’t “cancel” you or anyone else, as long as we only work for ourselves or other conservatives. Remembering that is key in learning how to fight the culture war.

This article might sound harsh, cold, and/or uncaring. And I suppose it is. But that is the attitude we conservatives have to take if we want to win the culture war. Not heated and emotional; those emotions lead to mistakes being made and your giving leftists the attention and respect they crave.

No, to fight and win the culture war, you need to learn how to remain cold and uncaring. Like Machiavelli’s ideal prince or a Borgia in the 48 Laws of Power, learn how to inflict damage without caring.

State your opinions, which will throw the leftists into a heated frenzy, and then disregard the opinions of those with whom you disagree, sipping on a martini and puffing on a cigar the entire time. Don’t get heated. Don’t yell, curse, or insult; that’s what they do. Just remember that you are there to fight to win, to beat back the left in the culture war by exposing its supporters as the frauds and firebrands that they are.

Be like a more collected version of Trump. Disregard what your enemies say as meaningless and unimportant, and then twist the knife with what you say about them. Take Breitbart’s advice and speak your mind. Take Rand’s advice and view your enemies as empty of any substance or power. Make them lose their minds so the center votes our way. That’s what Trump is doing and it what you need to do; it’s how to fight the culture war.
