According to a recent Axios article, some of Trump’s former aides have been detailing how he could upend the Swamp as we know it if he were to take office in 2024.
They claim that after the attempted impeachment of Donald Trump in his first term, he emerged with an entirely different attitude of vengeance. Trump understood that American Bureaucracy is against, not only him, but Conservatism in this country and he would have to truly “drain the swamp”.
Axios claims, “[Trump] now wanted to get even; he wanted to fire every single last “snake” inside his government.”
Shortly before the 2020 election, Trump signed an executive order that would reassign certain government employees under a new classification of “Schedule F”.
This would reclassify bureaucrats who have significant power and influence over government policy, which would amount to tens of thousands of government employees.
According to Government Executive, “The proposal marks an escalation from the controversial executive order Trump signed in October 2020 that sought to remove career federal workers in “confidential, policy-determining, policy-making or policy-advocating” jobs from the General Schedule into a new job classification where virtually all of their civil service protections are absent, essentially making them at-will employees.”
This “at will” employment status would have made them very disposable and easy to fire, whereas their existing civil service protections made that difficult.
Of course, Biden rescinded this executive order as soon as he took office in 2021, protecting federal employees and strengthening the power of the bureaucratic deep state.
Trump retorted in March 2022, “We will pass critical reforms making every executive branch employee fireable by the president of the United States,” further proclaiming, “The deep state must and will be brought to heel.”
Donald Trump has made one thing very clear; he is coming back with a vengeance if reelected and he will spare none of his enemies.
This means thousands of leftists could be purged from the government, effectively removing their influence from policy decisions that affect the American people. Trump could then replace these Bureaucrats with officials loyal to him who support the “America First” cause.
Axios states, “If former President Trump runs again in 2024 and wins back the White House, people close to him say, he would turn to both levers again. It is Schedule F, combined with the willpower of top lieutenants like McEntee, that could bring Trump closer to his dream of gutting the federal bureaucracy and installing thousands devoted to him or his “America First” platform.”
Furthermore, this could impact agencies beyond the normal scope of Conservative targets such as the EPA and IRS. This could now give Trump the authority to clear house within organizations such as the FBI, which was instrumental in investigating Trump for collusion with Russia that was proven to be entirely false.
This could pave the way for a much more aggressive and unrestrained Donald Trump presidency where the Make America Great Again agenda could be unleashed full force. This means the wall along our southern border could be completed, Biden’s regulations on the American fossil fuel industry could be reversed, and so much more.
If Trump manages to resurrect “Schedule F”, it could be the end of what many people feel is a liberal biased civil service in America, truly giving credence to his campaign slogan “drain the swamp”. With the way polls and Democratic approval ratings are looking, that could certainly be a reality.
