President Biden delivered his remarks on the recent tragic mass shootings and his belief in the need for Congress to act to pass “commonsense” laws to combat the epidemic of gun violence that is taking lives. See his remarks in the video below.

Aside from the partisan politics built up from recent mass shootings, it may be helpful to look at some recent polling just before these mass shootings. Is President Biden acting in a knee-jerk fashion to push an agenda that does not exist?
A recent Harvard-Harris poll has revealed some rather interesting views toward gun violence in America. This survey was conducted within the United States from May 18-19, 2022 (just prior to the Uvalde, Texas, mass shooting) among 1,963 registered voters. It should be noted that Harris polling, though often accurate, does tend to shade its poll weighting and the questions asked toward the Left. Let’s examine in more detail the findings of this polling.
Apparently, 61% of Americans feel violence in America is getting worse. This seems to be supported by other data. Gun homicides in the U.S. reached their highest level in more than 25 years during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – learn more here.
Clearly, Americans feel we have enough laws to fight violent criminals. We simply do not prosecute the criminals. This flies in the face of many politicians on the Left that think we should “defund the police.” Instead, much of the Justice Department’s activity is focused on political activities or chasing White Supremacists.
Even as a second choice, Americans don’t believe adding gun laws is the answer. Instead, the second leading cause is more to do with dealing with social issues of gun violence, such as mental illness.
Here is where Harris’s polling goes off the rails. What is not being asked in this polling question is what some believe is at the root of a lot of gun violence, and that involves the culture of family structure and education. Nevertheless, the “Mental Illness” category can be part of this.
As mentioned before, our law enforcement seems fixed on far too much politics. Our leaders have whipped up a White Supremacy problem that many feel is over-exaggerated. When given only two choices in the poll, Americans believe everyday killings are a more serious problem.
What does the polling indicate when asking about training and arming teachers in school?
“found 57.5 percent of American voters said that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous. Some 37.4 percent said that scenario makes schools “much more dangerous.” And almost half of Democrats agree — 48.2 percent believe that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous, whereas 41.3 percent say less dangerous. Some 57.1 of Independent voters agree and 67.5 percent of Republicans agree.
And the youngest demographic who took part in the poll — 18 to 24-year-olds— are in favoring of arming teachers by wide margin:
- 61.8 percent of 18-24-year-old voters believe that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous.
- 55.8 percent of 25-34-year-old voters believe that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous.
- 59 percent of 35-44-year-old voters believe that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous.
- 60 percent of 45-64-year-old voters believe that preventing properly trained school teachers and school staff from carrying a firearm makes schools more dangerous.”
Nevertheless, President Biden spoke about more gun laws for law-abiding citizens and said little to address the root causes. Learn more here from a Right Wire Report podcast that goes into far more detail concerning this issue.
