Though I was a huge Trump fan from the moment of his golden escalator ride in 2015, the first to put up a Trump sign in my family’s neighborhood all those years ago and “that guy” that wore the iconic, red “Make America Great Again” hat to pretty much every event at which a hat was even semi-appropriate, there was one aspect of his presidency that I found disappointing: he kept trying to work with people like Bill Barr, General Milley, and General Mattis.
Rather than being the American Sulla that acceded to the office of the presidency and used his vast popularity with the American “common man” and far-right political operatives like Bannon and Beattie, Trump kept trying to work with people that were somewhat opposed to his platform.
Such a course of action was understandable, and perhaps the right thing to do from the perspective of trying to bring America together, but it didn’t work and those Deep State operatives stabbed him in the back time and time again despite his generosity.
Well, if a recent report from Axios is to be believed, Trump learned that lesson and is being positively “Sullan” in what he plans to do after winning in 2024 and acceding to the presidency on January 20, 2025.
According to that report, one that’s meant to be scary and start the hand-wringing among the DC elite years before the election, Trump plans on going full Sulla when he returns in 2025, wiping away thousands of Deep State hacks with an executive order. It’s probably the best news of 2022. Here’s what Axios reported:
Former President Trump’s top allies are preparing to radically reshape the federal government if he is re-elected, purging potentially thousands of civil servants and filling career posts with loyalists to him and his “America First” ideology, people involved in the discussions tell Axios.
The impact could go well beyond typical conservative targets such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Internal Revenue Service. Trump allies are working on plans that would potentially strip layers at the Justice Department — including the FBI, and reaching into national security, intelligence, the State Department and the Pentagon, sources close to the former president say.
During his presidency, Trump often complained about what he called “the deep state.”
The heart of the plan is derived from an executive order known as “Schedule F,” developed and refined in secret over most of the second half of Trump’s term and launched 13 days before the 2020 election.
[…]
Trump, in theory, could fire tens of thousands of career government officials with no recourse for appeals. He could replace them with people he believes are more loyal to him and to his “America First” agenda.
In other words, Trump learned from his mistake in attempting to make peace with such people and, rather than negotiating with them and trying to find some ideas on which the two sides can compromise, Trump’s going to show up wearing his signature red tie and MAGA hat and wipe away thousands of Deep State hacks with one quick signature. Amazing.
Breitbart reported much the same thing, adding that “if Trump runs and wins in 2024, the former president is reportedly intending to reimplement the EO and purge the unelected technocrats artificially running the federal government.”
The left hated Trump in his first term even though he tried to play nice and get along with them where he could. Now, if the report is accurate and Trump has a Sullan perspective on dealing with the enemy within, they get to see what vengeance looks like and Trump will do what many of us hoped he would from the very beginning.
