There are Armed Invaders at the Border

The Article:

This afternoon I read a terrifying article on Fox News. In the article, the author, William Jeunesse, stated that heavily armed guards have been transporting migrants across the border. Or, in other words, there are armed invaders at the border. That’s right, the sadistic gunmen of the cartels that are so well described in El Narco and Narconomics are now milling around our southern border.

In this post, I will summarize the article and give my analysis of it. Usually, I stay away from Fox News because it’s a bit tabloidy now, but I thought this article on illegal immigration was quite good.

Summary: There are Armed Invaders at the Border

Jeunesse begins the article by describing the event. He says that a government-recorded video shows armed smugglers transporting a woman and her child right up to a border. The armed men had full tactical gear and AK 47 rifles. Then, the woman and her child step right across and turned themselves in. Border Patrol apprehended them, yet they still made it into America.

Jeunesse then describes the problems at the border. Cartels and smugglers use drones to track Border Patrol agents. Those Border Patrol agents are already overstretched. Some of the cartel members and smugglers are armed, creating the possibility of violent incidents.

Additionally, there is a huge mass of people headed across the border. Thousands of men, women, and children flood across every week. Sometimes in groups of hundreds. Furthermore, because Congress has refused to build the wall, there is no barrier to stop those people. So Border Patrol has to react quickly to apprehend them, straining its already stretched resources. Border patrol just doesn’t have the resources to deal with the threat of armed invaders at the border.

Analysis:

This article is terrifying for two main reasons.

The first reason is that it shows that the migrants and their smugglers are heavily armed. In fact, they probably outgun the average Border Patrol agent. That creates a dangerous situation. Also, it shows that the illegal immigration crisis is even more of an invasion that it used to be. Those men were armed. They were forcing themselves and their customers through the border and into America. That is an invasion, not good immigration.

The second reason this is terrifying is because it shows how precarious America’s position is. They are outgunned, dangerously outnumbered, and receive no governmental support except support from President Donald Trump. That should scare all Americans. It is a truly dangerous situation.

Legal immigration is good because it gives us a chance to bring in the best and weed out the bad actors. But illegal immigration is an awful thing. It is a mass of uneducated and potentially violent people pouring across the border. And we have no way of screening them, which Samuel Huntington describes as a huge cultural issue in his lesser-known book, Who Are We?

The Solution to the Threat of Armed Invaders at the Border:

There is no easy solution to this problem of armed invaders at the border. Various things could help. For example, a wall would give Border Patrol more time to respond. More Border Patrol officers would help stem the tide of immigrants. But liberty should not be surrendered. The tension between safety and liberty must be preserved.

Instead of pushing for more government control, Americans should stand up to these migrants themselves, and force the government to allow them to do so. It has shown itself to be unable to stem the tide, so ordinary citizens should do their best to beat back the illegal immigration crisis?

How can they do that? The most obvious way is by joining a militia that patrols the border. But that is not a workable idea for the average person and is dangerous. The most effective way the average citizen can help is by not hiring illegal immigrants. If they can’t work here, they won’t stay here. Average people should stand up for what is right and make sure legal immigration of all people is prioritized and encouraged, but illegal immigration is stopped. These people are armed invaders at the border. We must stop them. Border security is national security; we need to defend our homeland.
