While my mind knows this plea will fall on deaf ears – I felt compelled to make it.
Today, Americans received some sad news as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis released a statement revealing that his wife Casey, the mother of their three young children, had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Below is what this man, husband, and father shared:
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady.
As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.”
The immediate reactions and offerings of well wishes and prayers flooded in across the Conservative spectrum. Here are but a few:
While not shocking and, oh so commonplace these days, the left Twitterverse blew up with vile and hateful responses upon hearing the news. This writer refuses to service evil soul-crushing rage but a brief review of the CNN Political Twitter page will provide one a fair sampling.
Casey DeSantis married Ron DeSantis in 2010, and the couple has three children, including an 18-month-old, a 3-year-old, and a 4-year-old. Casey DeSantis has launched four major initiatives since her husband was elected governor of the state:
- First Lady DeSantis’ first major announcement was the Hope for Healing Florida initiative in May of 2019, which brought together stakeholders statewide to discuss new community-level solutions to address mental illness and substance abuse with emphasis on resources for children, veterans, and first responders. The Hope for Healing website helps navigate the many ways Floridians can access available resources.
- In December of 2019, First Lady DeSantis launched “The Facts. Your Future.” campaign – a public affairs partnership between the Office of the Attorney General, the Florida Department of Health, and the Florida Department of Education. This initiative empowers students with the facts surrounding substance abuse and how it negatively impacts their lives. A major announcement and new developments on this initiative are expected later this year.
- In February of 2021, First Lady DeSantis launched the Resiliency Florida initiative – a partnership with professional sports teams and athletes – including Tom Brady, David Beckham, Peyton Manning, Lou Holtz, Tony Dungy, Urban Meyer, Crystal Thomas, Ali Marpet, Bryant McFadden, Mark Richt, Twan Russell, Corey Simon, Tra Thomas, Jonathan Vilma, Charlie Ward, Tyler Johnson, Joey Logano, Brandon Lowe, and Chris Mueller – to address the stigma surrounding mental health. These teams and athletes are lending their voices and personal stories of resilience and hope to empower Florida students to persevere through adversity.
- Most recently, First Lady DeSantis spearheaded Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, Economic Self-Sufficiency and Hope. Implemented through the Department of Children and Families, this initiative is uniting communities through ‘‘Care Navigators’ who guide Floridians on an individualized path to prosperity by focusing on collaboration between the private sector, faith-based community, nonprofits and government entities – breaking down traditional community silos in an effort to maximize resources and uncover opportunities.
Before becoming the First Lady of Florida, Mrs. DeSantis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the College of Charleston. She is a three-time national champion equestrian and a runner-up Division I NCAA champion. She worked as a producer and on-air host for the PGA Tour and earned an Emmy award for her on-air work in Jacksonville.
The Legacy media, as the Democrat Party handmaidens, have been on a crusade to tarnish Governor DeSantis’s political future that appears to be gleaming towards a 2024 run on the Republican Presidential ticket. This relentless pursuit has led media to fabricate complete lies about the governor’s record and actions or spin a story without context, even omitting facts, to paint the Florida Governor in a bad light ( see here, here, here, here. here., and here). For his part, DeSantis has been a political Master Jedi, a true warrior who is not allowing one inch without a thorough takedown ( see here and here.)
The assignment for the media from the DNC was to wring the Governor’s COVID policy around his neck until he was left gasping for political air. Predictably, the reporting was hyped, riddled with falsehoods, and blatantly biased. Oh, and the propagandists failed. Here is the latest polling.
The media won’t report it, so let’s do it for them: Hospitalizations in Florida down -69% with no change in statewide policy or new mandates! “Miraculous!! A powerful testament to the power of natural immunity and democratic values!” fashionable commentators widely agree.
The state of Florida now has the 41st highest covid rate in the country. Cases are down 57% in the past 14 days without a mask mandate or vaccine mandates. Just sharing the data since most in the media won’t.
The DeSantis family is one of strong faith. The Right Wire Report community is praying Mrs. DeSantis has a full recovery and is confident in a positive outcome. But if there is one significant factor outside of medical expertise/treatment that can dramatically impact the outcome of a cancer patient’s journey – it is their support system. A positive mental outlook is as essential as an excellent treatment plan. There is little doubt that Casey and Ron have a strong community of Floridians, Americans, family, and friends to lift them during this most trying time in their lives. That said, it is Casey’s faith along with her husband and father of her children she must now lean upon to steady her and draw the most significant strength.
This writer is not naïve and understands the nature of the people she is imploring to stand down. Yet, beg, I shall – and if I must attempt to shame those into doing what is right, so be it.

There was once a time in your life when you felt the gambit of human emotions and understood the line of decency that should never get crossed. Many were not intolerable narcissists right out the gate. I suspect many had visions of a higher purpose even. Each of you has family, friends, co-workers you deeply care about and fiercely protect.
Take a good long look at these pictures.
These are human beings, not just political adversaries.
Have you ever heard the words “you have cancer?”
Have you ever been the spouse sitting next to your partner when you hear the words they have cancer?
Have you ever been a parent to small children while their mother or father endure brutal chemotherapy?
Politics is war, but journalism was never supposed to be a weapon against Americans whose ideological goals are not the same.
Each of you has a choice. What you choose will alter Mrs. DeSantis’s recovery and Governor DeSantis’s ability to be the pillar of strength for his wife and children he needs to be. Do not throw in your bull-crap to weigh his shoulders down further or distract the mother of his children from the battle of her life. Play fair!
STAND DOWN!
Put your divisively, petty, antics on the shelf for a few months and allow this young family to process, fight, heal and be victorious over an enemy other than the collective you. There will be plenty of time before 2024 to tear this man’s political flesh asunder – for now, just stand down. Report on the facts and just the facts, and grant this mother what may be her only peace of mind over the next harrowing months.
This man you have “jones” daily to destroy not only is a decorated US Naval Officer but was rewarded the Bronze Star. His service, and those like him, provided you with the luxury of hugging your loved ones and enjoying your freedoms. Grant him the peace of mind now- not to be looking over his shoulder for the next gotcha media question.
And possibly regain some semblance of integrity in the eyes of the American people and remember what it felt like to respect yourselves again.
